Thistle Brooch No. 25

The thistle, which features in many of these designs, was adopted over 700 years ago as the emblem of Scotland, when according to legend it was responsible for signaling the clandestine approach of a horde of bare-footed invaders! Its intrinsic aesthetic quality and balance are instantly recognizable, commanding universal appeal. Brooches such as these have, for many centuries played a functional role in the history of Britain’s jewellery and today are distinctive and lovely pieces to wear on any occasion.

Approximate Size: 26 × 36mm

Art Pewter Silver Jewellery and Clan crests are hand wrought in Pewter. Pewter does not contain silver but is an ancient alloy of tin, lead and copper and has been in use for 1,000 years or more. The silver appearance is in fact a plated finish of Palladium (similar to Platinum) which unlike silver, is resistant to tarnishing and will not scratch readily. The Gold finish is 23 carat electroplated and the Antique finish is a plated finish of Antique silver. The majority of the Stones are quality glass imitations with precision cut facets to enhance the natural colour spectrum.
